Local wrap-up for Wednesday

Posey scores four to win

WASHINGTON — North Posey scored four runs to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth inning to defeat Washington, 10-7, in high school baseball at the Sports Complex Monday.

Washington scored twice in the bottom of the third for a 2-1 lead before the Vikings scored three runs in the fourth. North Posey then added two runs in the fifth before Washington tied the game at six with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tyler Edmiston, Jarrod Robinson and Brayden Walls pitched for the Hatchets (14-9).

Edmiston had two hits and drove in two runs. Cameron Allen had two hits.

Patrick Arvin, Jalen Hyde, Robinson and Walls had one hit each.

Hatchets win weekend pair

Washington defeated Eastern Greene, 17-3, Friday and Northeast Dubois, 17-6, Saturday in high school baseball.

Brayden Walls hit his fourth home run of the season to pace the Hatchets to the 17-3 win at the Sports Complex.

Walls had two hits to drive in five runs behind Jarrod Robinson who allowed two earned runs in the five-inning game.

Jalen Hyde had three hits, Robinson, Tyler Edmiston and Cameron Allen had two hits each. Patrick Arvin, Erin Long and Hunter Thurston had one each.

Washington defeated Northeast Dubois with eight runs in third inning Saturday.

Edmiston drove home five runs with three hits while Hyde drove in three with four hits.

Justin Harner, Walls and Thurston each had two hits. Patrick Arvin had one. Hyde pitched five innings for the win. Edmiston relieved.

on DVD


LOOGOOTEE — “The Loogootee Way” goes on sale at 3:30 p.m. today at the high school’s main entry.

The DVD chronicles the team’s season as well as background information.

The sale continues through 7 p.m.

Beard wins SWIAC

ELNORA — Bloomfield won the SWIAC tennis tournament with 16 points.

North Daviess (11.5), Linton (6.5) and White River Valley (0) completed the field.

First round singles winners were: Liza Bartlett (Bloomfield) over Alyssa Flynn (WRV); Mercedes Shafford (Linton) over Darrah Holder (ND) Breanna West (Linton) over Amy Ragle (WRV) and Elena Weddle (Bloomfield) over Natasha Trinkle (ND).

Single quarter-finals winners were: Stacey Beard (North Daviess) defeated Bartlett 6-0 and 6-1; Shafford  defeated Jenny Wagner (WRV). 6-3, 6-3; Kari Shulte (Bloomfield) defeated West, 6-1, 6-1; and Ashley Cooper (Linton) defeated Weddle, 6-3, 6-2.

In the semi-finals, Beard beat Shafford (6-4, 6-3) and Shulte defeated Cooper (6-1, 6-1). Beard went on to win the tournament over Shulte (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles, quarter-finals winners were: Cari Jo Wilson-Madison Reed (North Daviess) defeated Rachel Helms-Emily Walker (Bloomfield): and Taylor Jeffers-Sarah Smith (North Daviess) defeated Emma Dorris-Amanda Livingston (Bloomfield).

In the semi-finals: Helms-Walker defeated Reed-Wilson, 6-1, 6-0; and Doris-Livingston defeated Jeffers-Smith (6-1, 6-1).

Helms-Walker won the tournament over Doris and Livingston, 6-0, 6-3.

All-SWIAC Honors were given to Beard, Cooper, and Shulte in singles and Helms, Walker, Doris, and Livingston on the doubles side. Honorable Mention was given to Shafford, Jeffers, and Smith.

Cougars at SWIAC

LINTON —  Tucker Fisher led North Daviess in the SWIAC golf meet at Phil Harris Golf Course with a round of 85. Other North Daviess scores were: Austen Byrer, 109; Noah Gaither, 116; and Justin Knepp, 122. Team scores were not repo

Cougars third at Vincennes

VINCENNES — Tucker Fisher shot 47 for North Daviess as the Cougars finished third in a triangular golf match with South Knox and North Knox at the Country Club of Old Vincennes Monday.

Lane Fulton shot 52 for North Daviess, Lane Heshelman shot 56, Justin Knepp 61 and Noah Gaither, 62.

North Daviess is at Country Oaks against Washington Catholic Thursday.

Vikes blank WRV

SWITZ CITY — The Barr-Reeve Vikings baseball team had two runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and four in the seventh to take home an 8-0 victory over the White River Valley Wolverines Monday.  Viking Brandon Wagler pitched all seven innings, giving up no runs, one hit and one walk. He fanned 10.

The Vikings had 11 hits for eight runs, with Cain Miller getting three and Addison Wagler two. Addison Wagler, Stanley Kemp and Cody Wagler each doubled.

Lions stop Shoals, 10-0

SHOALS — Gabrielle Ritchey pitched a five-inning, five-hit, shutout as Loogootee defeated Shoals, 10-0, in softball Monday.

Loogootee (10-8, 4-1 Blue Chip) got on the board in the first inning, scoring three times. Loogootee then scored seven in the fourth.

Loogootee plays at North Knox at 5 p.m. Friday in a game started May 7.

WJHS beats Forest Park

HUNTINGBURG — The Washington Junior High golf team defeated Forest Park at Huntingburg Country Club Monday, 182-204.

Washington was led by Connor Brown with a 41, while Max Lancaster was second with a 42. Colton Garland added a 48 and Ben Gaither shot 51.  

Not scoring for Washington was Justice Lathem, Travis Harper with 59s and Daniel Davis with a 61.
