Madison Decker took wins in the 800 and 1,600 meters in a triangular girls high school track meet Thursday.
Decker was joined by Chloe Heller and Ashlyn Stoll as individual winners.
Decker won the 800 in 2:38.43 and the 1,600 in 5:50. Heller won the 3,200 in 12:33 and Stoll took the discus (107-1).
Washington won the 1,600 relay (4:33.62) and the 3,200 relay (11:12).
South Knox won the meet with 67 points to 49 for both Washington and North Knox.
Second places went to: Jenna Legg, 100, :13.37; Shawna Webb, high jump, 4-8; and Brandy White, 800, 2:41.27.
Thirds went to: Audra Lane, 100 hurdles, :19.96; Webb, 400, 1:08.93, and 200, :29.61; and Legg, long jump, 14-7 1/4.
Fourths went to: Stoll, 200, :30.46, and shot put, 30-1.
Walls fans 15
in 8-6 win
SULLIVAN — Brayden Walls fanned 15 Sullivan hitters as Washington defeated the Golden Arrows, 8-6, in baseball Thursday.
Walls (3-3) allowed three earned runs on five hits while walking four in seven innings for Washington (11-7).
“Brayden’s 15 strike outs were obviously a special feat,” Washington coach Steve Reed said. That tied him for third in school history. Defensively we haven’t been as sharp. We had a couple of throwing mistakes that cost us. We need to get back to where we were a couple of weeks ago. But, Brayden did a great job.”
Terry Buhr holds the record for the most strikeouts in game with 18 (1972). Kenny Vance fanned 16 in 1943.
John Wilz (1948), Rick Alford (1974), Jeff Day (1983), Matt Coleman (1984, and twice in 1985) and Jeff Day (1984), all equaled Walls’ performance.
Walls now has 53 strike outs and possesses a 2.27 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .193.
Washington built leads of 1-0, 2-0 and 4-0 with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Sullivan scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the gap to 4-3.
But Washington responded with four runs in the seventh and then held on as Sullivan scored three times in the bottom of the inning.
Patrick Arvin drove in three runs for the Hatchets on two strikeouts. Arvin now has 16 RBIs on the season.
Jarrod Robinson drove in two runs on two hits.
Jalen Hyde, Tyler Edmiston and Kyle Pfender each had hits for Washington.
“Offensively we’ve been hitting the ball recently,” Reed said. “We scored 30runs in the past three games.”
Washington’s Friday home game with Tell City was lost to rain. The Hatchets host Bloomfield Tuesday.
PAOLI — Hannah Lamar earned the lone win for Loogootee as Paoli defeated the Lions, 4-1, in high school tennis Thursday.
Lamar won her singles match in two sets, 7-6(4) and 6-3.
Sabrina Stuffle and Allison Kiser lost in singles, 6-0, 6-1 and 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
Becca Zins-Emily Sutton were defeated in doubles, 6-1, 6-2, and Abby Ackerman-Emilee Lannan were also defeated, 6-1, 6-2.
“Hannah played a great match and beat a really good player,” Loogootee coach Mike Tippery said.
The Lions (9-7) play Tuesday at Bloomfield.
Graber wins Blue Chip double
BICKNELL — Barr-Reeve’s Natalie Graber won the 800 and 1,600 meters at Wednesday’s girls Blue Chip Junior High Conference track meet.
Graber won the 800 in 2:35.57 and the 1,600 in 5:44.89.
Emily Schulteis placed third in the 400 (1:09.46) and fourth in the long jump (12-9 1/2). She joined Graber, Mary Lang and Megan Graber to place third in the 1,600 relay (4:43.03).
Rachel Wilson, Schulteis, Lang and Megan Graber placed fourth in the 400 relay (:59.33).
Lang placed fifth in the 100 (:14.47), and Megan Graber was sixth (:14.51).
The Vikings placed fifth as a team in their first year as a team.
Team scores were: North Knox, 155; Wood Memorial, 100; South Knox, 60; Vincennes Rivet, 47; Barr-Reeve, 43; Northeast Dubois, 36; and Loogootee, 1.
Boys camp set at North Daviess
ELNORA — The North Daviess Boys Basketball Camp begins May 29 for students in fifth through ninth grade.
The camp is broken into two groups.
First- through-fifth graders meet from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday the following two weeks.
Sixth- through ninth-graders meet from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on the same days. The sixth through ninth graders will meet an extra day on June 11 from 10-11:15 a.m.
Sessions are at the North Daviess gymnasium. There is no cost or registration.
Sixth through ninth graders must attend the two weeks to play in games scheduled later in the month.
There is also an additional session for third- through fifth-graders on June 20 and 27 from 5-6:30 p.m. each day.
WHS soccer meeting set
The Washington High School boys soccer boosters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s cafeteria. Parents of junior high or high school players are welcomed to attend.
