Loader accident claims 4-year-old

RAGLESVILLE — A skid-steer loader accident claimed the life of a 4-year-old girl Saturday morning near Daviess County's Amish area.

Regina Wittmer died at 12:4 p.m. Saturday at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville as a result of massive head trauma from a skid-steer loader incident on her family's property.

According to a release from the Daviess County Sheriff's Department, Matthew Wittmer, 11210E 950N, was using the loader at 10:20 a.m. He stopped the loader to pick up Regina and a 2-year-old brother.

As he was loading the brother, a lever was pushed, causing the loader to move forward. The loader then ran over Regina's head and shoulder.

Daviess County Sheriff's deputies, Madison Township Volunteer firefighters and Southwest Medical EMS raced to the scene and Regina was transported to Daviess Community Hospital. She was then airlifted to Kosair.

Jefferson County (Ky.) Coroner Jack Arnold listed Regina's cause of death was from head trauma.

The incident is under investigation.
