Protecting yourself from scams

Daviess County Sheriff Gary Allison announced Friday that several in the area have reported receiving calls from an 812 area code pretending to be affiliated with government and law enforcement.

“There have been many calls where people are impersonating government or law enforcement agencies. These are scam calls. Some request personal information to verify, some are claiming there is a warrant for your arrest and some are asking for money,” said Allison. “Please, never give out any personal information over the phone. No legit government or law enforcement agency will ever call and ask for any of your information.”

Allison said the calls should be ignored.
