The Arts and Flowers Garden Club met Oct. 10, 2019, at the Washington Carnegie Public Library. President Bev Spillman began the meeting by reading a series of very funny garden sayings and slogans that had everyone laughing. She then thanked the hostesses Linda Cornelius, Coleen Swartzentruber, and Linda Epley.
Roll Call was taken and 17 members were present. The minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Chris Seal’s treasurer’s report was approved.
Eight garden club members attended the Southwest District meeting on Oct. 1 in Santa Claus. They enjoyed the program by Larry Stocker, The Garden Guy.
The following slate of officers for 2020 was presented by the nominating committee: Linda Cornelius as president, Shari Gray as vice president, Rosie McGuire as secretary, and Chris Seal as treasurer. Voting will take place at the November meeting and officers will be initiated at the December Christmas party.
Information on involving youth with garden clubs, provided by the Garden Club of Indiana, was distributed by President Spillman.
Jan Wake and Jennie Richardson both sent notes resigning from the club. They were regretfully accepted.
Linda Cornelius and Chris Seal attended the Central Region Garden Club Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, Oct. 7-8. Seven states are a part of the Central Region and Jodi Meyer is currently the director. She has appointed Chris Seal as associate treasurer. There is a full-time permanent treasurer but Seal will be giving the reports at the meetings. One of the programs they enjoyed was “Plants Along the Lewis and Clark Trail.” Eighteen gardeners from Indiana attended the convention and presented the invitation to the 2020 gathering which will take place Oct. 19-21 in Middlebury, Indiana. The theme will be “The Roaring Twenties.”
On Nov. 10 there will be Veteran’s Day events at the Daviess County Museum and also a parade. The Garden Expo is scheduled for Feb. 29, 2020. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 14 at the library.
