The Arts and Flowers Garden Club met Nov. 14, 2019, at the Washington Carnegie Public Library. The meeting began with a program by Judy Heller of Heller’s Country Gardens. She gave a lesson on making a Christmas arrangement with the suggestion that lots of different greenery be used to make it interesting. Her advice: “a little bit of everything and not too much of anything.” The club also learned how to make a bow using two colors and two textures.
President Bev Spillman then welcomed members and thanked the hostesses Sue Garrett, Bonnie Jones and Maggie Tuggle. Roll call was taken and 18 members were present. The minutes of the October meeting were read and approved. Chris Seal gave the treasurer’s report and it was approved.
The slate of officers for 2020 was voted on and approved. They will be: President Linda Cornelius, Vice President Shari Gray, Treasurer Chris Seal and Secretary Rosie McGuire.
The Pfoff family has donated the tree for Main Street. The city will put it up and place the lights on it. They will also hang the wreaths on the gazebo at Meredith Plaza. The club will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 to hang the garland on the gazebo railing.
Linda Cornelius distributed a sign-up sheet for next year’s activities. She also asked for suggestions for field trips. Kathleen Harris and Fran Neal both sent letters asking to withdraw from their inactive memberships.
The next meeting will be held at the museum on Dec. 12. Jodi Meyer will install the new officers. The dues for 2020 will be collected as well as a donation for Feed My Sheep.
