Author April Jones Prince Skypes in to visit NDE fifth grade

Photo Submitted April Jones Prince Skypes in to visit with North Daviess Elementary fifth graders.

Imagine, connecting face to face in a delightful conversation with a “real live author” who is in Massachusetts to Daviess County in a matter of seconds. North Daviess Elementary fifth grade students had the amazing experience to Skype with April Jones Prince, author of several children’s books, including “Who Was Mark Twain?,” “Who Was Fredrick Douglass?” and “Jackie Robinson, He Led the Way!”

April Jones Prince has a special love of history and of books for the very young. She strives to inspire, empower, and motivate young writers. During the presentation, Prince read aloud her book "Who Was Mark Twain?" to the captivated NDE fifth graders. After reading, she spoke about how fun writing can be. She expressed the importance of writing from our hearts and minds about the things we love and know most about. She also discussed writing in detail, catching every moment, and using similes and “juicy words.” Students were excited during the question/answer/discussion session with Prince. Taking time to address each question, engaging with the students, she certainly made an impression on the young writers. These fifth graders will not forget this spectacular presentation for quite a while. In Skyping, technology enriches our learning from a distance, and what a great journey was had.
