Barr-Reeve band had 46 entries attend ISSMA solo and ensemble instrumental contest on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Jasper Middle School. The band received 33 gold, 11 silver and one bronze medal.
Students are put in group levels according to the difficulty they are playing. If they are Group I, it is the hardest level of music to play and they must choose their solo and/or ensemble from a required list. Barr-Reeve had 10 solos and one ensemble compete in Group I.
The following students received a gold and will go on to state competition on Feb. 29 at North Central High School in Indianapolis: sophomores Katelynn Stoll and Laura Allen, both on flute solo; junior Selena Mascorro on flute solo; senior Drew Graber of oboe solo; junior Magdalena Miller of clarinet solo; sophomore Cole Baker of trombone solo; junior David Lengacher of marimba solo; and senior Dalton Whitehead on xylophone solo. Receiving a silver in Group I was junior Madison Harris-Gist on clarinet solo and junior ensemble flute trio of Ellie Swartzentruber, Selena Mascorro and Hailey Carter. Receiving a bronze in Group I was junior Hailey Carter on xylophone solo.
Receiving a gold in Group II was 8th grade Dominic Wilson on saxophone solo. Receiving a silver in Group II were junior Taylen Graber on saxophone solo; junior Makana Gabrel on clarinet solo; sophomore Dalton Knepp on saxophone solo; sophomore Stacy Raber on trumpet solo; and 8th grade Bryce Cornelius on saxophone solo.
Receiving a gold in group III were: junior Adrianna Martinez of baritone solo and tuba solo; junior Taylen Graber on violin solo; sophomore Laura Allen on piccolo solo; freshmen Grant Madison on baritone saxophone solo and Griffin Bell on French horn solo. Ensembles receiving a gold in group III were: saxophone trio of Dominic Wilson, Bryce Cornelius and Pacey Allbright; and trumpet trio of Emily Allen, Austin Knepp and Isaac Briggeman. Receiving a silver in Group III were: junior Javen Crews on trombone solo; freshman Lillie Yoder on trumpet solo; 8th grade Cynthia Raber on clarinet solo and Emily Allen on trumpet solo.
Receiving a gold in Group IV were: 8th grade Katie Raber on flute solo, Madison Ray on Clarinet solo, Grayden Corbin on baritone saxophone solos, Austin Knepp on trumpet solo and Isaac Briggeman on trumpet solo; 7th grade Allie Knepp and Raelynn Lloyd on trumpet solos, and Yadier Victoriano on baritone solo; and 6th grade Mattilyn Bryan on xylophone solo. Ensemble in Group IV receiving a gold was: snare drum trio of Alex Guinn, Ava Carter and Layne Walton. Receiving silver in Group IV was 8th grade Logan Spinks on tenor saxophone solo. Receiving a gold in Group IV were 6th grade Nathanial Sherfick on clarinet solo, Gabiel Kavanaugh on trombone solo, Dawson Fitch-Edwards on baritone solo, and Levi Lester Mattilyn Bryan on snare drum solos; and 7th grade Yadier Victoriano on tuba solo.
Accompanists were Emma Mundy, Joyce Kim-Rohrer, Precious Rhea, Kaelyn Klopfestein and Bariah Bridgewater. All students are under the direction of Stephanie O’Brian.
