Park lights

This year’s Christmas lights display at Eastside Park includes a fire-breathing dragon on the bridge.

Eastside Park is all lit up, thanks to the folks with the Washington Parks and Recreation Department. “We do have some new displays. We add new ones every year,” said Kip Kelley, superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department. “I don’t want to give it away; I want folks to come out and see it, but they are pretty neat where we’ve got them.”

The department began putting up the displays on Oct. 1 and they will remain lit every night until Jan. 2. On Wednesday, the department will install a counter to track how many visitors come by the park every week.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the lights at the upcoming Christmas in the Park events on Dec. 11 and Dec. 17. There will be refreshments, carriage rides and a visit with Santa.
