The YMCA’s STEAM program has recently received a grant to help with funding their after-school activities. This grant, the State School-Age Child Care Project Fund Grant from the OECOSL (Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning), will help area children participate in a program that teaches science, technology, engineering, art and math.
“It’s a five-to-six week program,” said YMCA program director Darin Hornaday. “These are kids from kindergarten to sixth grade. They learn all kinds of stuff here. We built catapults, we learned about the weather and the fall leaves.”
Most of the program takes place at North Elementary because of its space, equipment and central location.
