Emergency crews on the scene of an accident that ripped apart a utility truck and sent the driver to the hospital. A semi that was also involved can be seen in the background.

At least one person was injured and traffic was tied up on U.S. 50 Monday morning. Indiana State Police and the Martin County Sheriff’s Department were called to the crash around 9:30 in the morning near the intersection of Red School Road and U.S. 50 about one-quarter mile west of the entrance to the Martin State Forest.

Chief Deputy Josh Green says the accident appears to have happened with a utility truck crossed the center-line and sideswiped the on-coming semi. The driver of the utility truck was taken to Shoals and then flown to University of Louisville Hospital. The driver of the semi did not appear to be injured.

Authorities say the semi was loaded with gravel. U.S. 50 was down to one lane the rest of the morning while authorities worked the scene. The road is expected to be closed for a short time this afternoon to clean up the scene.
