A traffic stop early Wednesday in Martin County sent an Orleans man to jail on drug charges. The Martin County Sheriff’s Department reports that around 1:19 Wednesday morning Martin County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Tyler Reed was on patrol in Shoals when he noticed a vehicle with a registration and equipment violation.
A traffic stop was conducted and during the stop Reed utilized the county’s narcotics certified K9 Virka for a free air sniff of the vehicle. Virka gave a positive indication for the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle by officers turned up nearly a gram of a white crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Deputies then arrested the driver who was identified as James G. Montesano, 53, Orleans. He was being held on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.
Deputy Reed was assisted by Chief Deputy Josh Greene and Deputy Rob Lents in making the arrest.
