Looking Back: The Swinda homestead

This undated, hand-colored black and white photograph (ca. 1900-1910) of the William H. Swinda home and barn south of Elnora, Indiana is part of the collection at the Daviess County Museum located on Washington’s Main Street. A label tapped at the bottom of the photo reads, “Donated By: Wm. B Neeriemer/The William H Swinda Home/Elnora, Indiana.” On the reverse is written, William Swinda Home South of Elnora.” Also written on the reverse is “#1217” which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this was one item in a large collection donated to the Museum on August 5, 1986 by Dean H. Neeriemer, an attorney in Washington, Indiana, who was the grandson of Mr. Swinda. The photo has been trimmed to fit an oval frame.
