MONTGOMERY — Barr-Reeve Community Schools will have a new music teacher and school nurse/health and wellness director when school begins in August.

Misty Mosby was hired Tuesday to lead the corporation’s choral department. Mosby, who comes to Barr-Reeve after six years at Loogootee, replaces Leah Cochran.

“We are really excited to welcome Misty back home and we are excited about the opportunities she will bring to our kids,” said Barr-Reeve Superintendent Dr. Travis Madison.

Jennifer Stoll was hired as an assistant for the program.

Lizzie Sparks will be the new school nurse and health and wellness director. She will take over for Mandy Ash.

“Mandy has been with us for 11 years. We really appreciate how she’s always been on top of things. She’s done a wonderful job,” said Madison, adding Sparks was one of 12 candidates who applied for the position that will not only handle the needs of students but also help with health reports and other related duties.

“We are excited to have Lizzie here,” said Madison.

Melissa Lottes will also be working with students on career options thanks to a grant opportunity received by the Southern Indiana Education Center. Lottes will be a career tech education counselor.

“We will have her here for two years, said Madison. “We are really excited to bring her on board to help with some of the career awareness.”

The corporation is also looking for some additional pathways for students including some agriculture offerings as well as more courses in family and consumer sciences.

Madison announced that students will also be receiving free tray lunches and breakfast during the upcoming school year and textbook fees were set.

Middle and high school fees vary by class schedule but kindergarten books will be $99.86, first grade $100.35; second grade $122.30; third $125.29; fourth $125.41 and fifth grade $121.16.

Bus routes and daily rates were also approved during the meeting. Drivers will be Jerrold Harder ($93.73), Sharon Knepp ($84.87), Emily O’Brian ($84.87), Terry Craney ($97.85), Abe and Vera Graber ($84.87), Teresa Lengacher ($84.87), William Wagler ($84.87), Tina Buse ($84.87), Ashley Salmon ($93.73), Marvin Knepp ($72), Sandy Rice ($63) and Enos Wagler ($63).

Madison said bus drivers will be paid for 181 days and there’s still one route that needs a driver.

After many years of using St. Peters for additional classroom space, Madison said the corporation will officially be out of the building at the end of the month.

“It’s been a great partnership,” he said.

The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 17.
