Bertha Haas

Bertha Haas, 89, died at 7:20 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Ireland, Ind., she was the daughter of Andrew and Fidelia (Hurst) Goeppner. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society and the Auxiliary to Post 673 in Jasper. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She is survived by her husband, Anthony V. “Tony” Haas, whom she married Feb. 22, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Vonderheide of Jasper and Kathleen and Martin Holman of Bristow; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herb and Kathy Haas of Jasper and Jerry and Marilyn Haas of Washington; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Fleck of Ireland; and three brothers, Anthony and Ray Goeppner, both of Jasper, and Emil Goeppner of Ireland. She is preceded in death by one grandson, Keith Allen Vonderheide; one brother, Herbert Goeppner; and two sisters who died in infancy. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Becher and Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, with a rosary at 3 p.m. by the St. Ann’s Society. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a favorite charity. (June 18, 2010)
