Republican women honored

Two Daviess County Republican Women were honored last month in Indianapolis. Pictured are Diana Snyder, Margaret Colbert, Elaine Wellman and Patty Ball. Colbert and Wellman were honored for their service.

Daviess County was well represented at the annual Tribute to Women at the Ritz Charles in Indianapolis on Aug. 27. The Indiana Federation of Republican Women host the dinner event and clubs across the State of Indiana submitted their honorees to be recognized by the State. With COVID last year the event was canceled so this year each organization recognized two honorees from each club.

Daviess County Republican honorees were Margaret Colbert and Elaine Wellman.

Colbert has spent much of her life supporting the Republican Party in Daviess County. She has never missed the opportunity to vote. She has served as a precinct committee person, and worked every position on the election board including the travel board last year during COVID.

Wellman also has served in various roles for the Republican Party. From her most previous role as the County Treasurer, to holding office as the Clerk Treasurer for the city of Washington and also being the First Lady of Washington when her husband, Joe Wellman served as mayor.

The evening events were highlighted by special speakers, Gov. Eric Holcomb; Lt.Governor Suzanne Crouch; Attorney General Todd Rokita; Auditor of State Tera Klutz; Indiana Treasurer Kelly Mitchell; Senator Mike Braun and Congresswoman Victoria Sparks. The Republican Woman of the Year was Connie Lawson, former Secretary of State.

Also in attendance was special guest National Federation Republican Women First Vice President Eileen Sobjack.
