Doug D. Starkweather, 56, died Wednesday at his home. Doug was born on Aug. 17, 1955, in Muscatine, the son of Adam and Gertrude (Manley) Starkweather. His marriages included Peggy Ross and Jacque Christianson. He worked as a safety supervisor for Grain Processing Corporation for 37 years. He moved to Washington, working at the GPC Plant for 13 years prior to his retirement. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle, and rode RAGBRAI for five years. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include three sons, Matt Starkweather and wife Misty of Muscatine, Aaron Starkweather and wife Maria of Muscatine, and Toby Starkweather and wife Trisha of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren; one brother, Adam ‘Sonny’ Starkweather and wife Shirley of Muscatine; and five sisters, Kathie Frisbee and husband Russell of Fruitland, Mary Mathias and husband Jim of Muscatine, Linda Brockert and husband Tom of Muscatine, Loretta Adcock of Wideman, Ark., and Joyce Mathias and husband Bob of Warrensburg, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jean Ramer on Nov. 19, 2011. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
