An Elnora man has been arrested in a southern Indiana police sting operation. The Madison Police Department reports the arrest Ryan E. Cooksey, 42, of Elnora on charges of attempted sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation and possession of methamphetamine.
Police in Madison last week began a sting operation that has now netted 15 men accused of attempting to solicit children for sex on the internet.
Police in Madison say Cooksey said he had been working at a moto-cross track near Elnora. They report they had never had any dealings with Cooksey until he showed up in a downtown park looking to hook-up with a 14-year-old girl he attempted to solicit on the internet.
“He was surprised when he wound up meeting with a police officer instead of the girl,” said Madison Police Chief John Wallace. “We are trying to send out a message that if you think you are going to hook up with a 14-year-old girl in Madison you are wrong. The only thing you will get hooked up with is a pair of handcuffs.”
Police report that after the arrest Cooksey was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where officers found a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession leading to the additional drug charge.
