Loogootee man in jail in connection to apparent attack on woman

Charles Travis Kline

A Loogootee man is being held in the Martin County Jail on a number of preliminary charges in connection with an attack on a woman.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department reports it arrested Charles Travis Kline, 46, Loogootee, on preliminary charges of rape, criminal confinement, battery with a deadly weapon causing injury, strangulation and intimidation with a deadly weapon.

As this point authorities are not sharing much information in connection of the arrest. Martin County Prosecutor Aureola Wright says that she had represented Kline in a previous case and that she would be in a conflict of interest if she pursued the matter. She has recused herself from the case and requested that a special prosecutor be appointed.

Once the new attorney is appointed, he will have a reasonable time to get up with the facts of the case and file formal charges.

Meanwhile, Kline remains in the Martin County Jail without bond.
