SHOALS — The Martin County Commissioners suspended the county’s Public Health Coordinator, Bobbie Souerdike, without pay at a special meeting Thursday.

Souerdike, 40, Loogootee, was arrested by Loogootee police earlier this month on a Dubois County warrant charging her with purchasing more than three grams of pseudoephedrine.

Souerdike was suspended with pay up to Thursday’s meeting by the commissioners last week and ordered an investigation. She was in a part-time position which, until this year, had grant funding for a full-time position.

As part of her duties, she coordinated health emergency planning and was part of the county’s H1N1 response team.

The commissioners also directed Dr. Larry Sutton to fill the position temporarily.

Souerdike was arrested by Loogootee police Feb. 6 along with two others, Robert Ader, 48, and Carl E. Wiscaver, 28, both of Loogootee. All three were transported to the Dubois County Jail.

Souerdike was not the county’s health nurse as previously reported. That position is held by another person and was not part of the investigation or proceedings.

In other personnel business, the commissioners interviewed a candidate for the Veterans Service Officer position. Commissioner Paul George said the board will make a decision during its regular meeting Tuesday.
