If you love a tractor pull or drag racing, Wagler Motorsports Park near Lyons will be the place to be today and Saturday when the facility hosts the Wagler Diesel vs. Gas Shootout.
Jeremy Wagler, owner of the motorsports park, said this is the fifth year for the event but the first year for it to be held at the former Lyons track.
“Events were previously held at the Daviess County Fairgrounds in Elnora,” said Wagler, who said the track is located between Newberry and Lyons.
The new venue, Wagler said, is more family friendly with a concession stand and a playground for the kids. There’s also onsite camping available and it’s OK to bring in lawn chairs for more comfortable seating.
Today, gates will open at noon for TNT drag races from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and at 7 p.m., the Lucas Oil Pro Point Series will take to the track.
The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Point Series, Wagler said, runs from Wisconsin to New York and even down in the Carolinas. For Greg Boyd and the Green Streak, Lyons will be about as close to home they can get.
Boyd will compete in the super modified tractor division. Pro stock diesel trucks, super farm tractors, limited pro diesel trucks, and super modified two-wheel drive trucks are also slated to run Friday.
Saturday the gates will open at 8 a.m. with the diesel vs. gas shootout slated for 9 a.m. start. The Outlaw Street Car Association will take to the track after the shootout.
Between both days, Wagler said he anticipates around 250 competitors.
Admission is $15 per day for adults with children 12 and under free.
