A Washington man was arrested Saturday on a warrant charging him with breaking into a Washington house and raping a woman. City police report the arrest of Alex Jorelus, 18, Washington, on charges of rape and burglary for an alleged attack early last month.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a woman placed a 911 call to police on June 3 claiming she had been attacked in her home. Police say they took the woman to Daviess Community Hospital for an examination and went to her home and collected evidence from the scene.
The woman told police she left the back door to her home unlocked so that her boyfriend, who does not have a key, could get inside. She said she had just laid down to go to bed when she was attacked by a tall, slender man dressed in black. She initially told police that because it was dark she could not tell who her assailant was.
According to the court document the woman told police she tried to fight off her attacker. He tore off her shorts and underwear and she tried to hit him with a glass candle. That was when he picked her up, slammed her down and raped her.
Although the woman said originally she could not identify her attacker, police say she later came to them and identified him as a man she knew as "Little Alex." She told detectives that he had threatened her if she gave his name to police or her boyfriend. The victim said that "Little Alex" was always talking about having guns and that she was frightened.
Washington Police Detective Greg Dietsch, who conducted the investigation, said he showed a photo array to the victim and she identified her attacker as Jorelus.
Formal charges were filed last week and Jorelus was picked up on Saturday by a police officer who saw him riding in a car. He is in the Daviess County Jail on $250,000 bond.
