Two women are in the Daviess County Jail facing multiple drug charges after a three-month investigation.
Washington City Police, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, members of the DEA Task Force and Indiana State Police took part in the investigation and arrests.
Police report Lindsay R. Smith, 34, of Washington was arrested Wednesday afternoon during a traffic stop on Cosby Road on a warrant out of Daviess Superior Court charging her with dealing in methamphetamine.
Officers report that following her arrest they conducted a search of her residence on West Hefron Street where they discovered a small amount of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. They also arrested her for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
Police also report the arrest of Elsa Madrigal, 40, Washington, on two warrants charging her with dealing in methamphetamine. Those warrants were served on her at the Daviess County Jail where she was already being held on a separate charge of dealing in methamphetamine.
According to the probable cause affidavits filed by Washington City Police Detective Brandon Garland the charges against Smith and one of the dealing counts against Madrigal stem from a controlled purchase of $150 of methamphetamine by a confidential source on March 3. The controlled purchase was part of a joint effort by the Washington Police Department and Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. In the affidavit police allege Smith arranged for and assisted in the sale of an 8-ball of meth to the confidential source by Madrigal.
A second probable cause affidavit filed by Washington City Police against Madrigal for dealing in methamphetamine claims that on March 5 she sold a half-ounce of meth to the confidential source. Police claim the sale by Madrigal was for $500. The affidavit lists city police and a DEA agent as being involved in the investigation.
Smith was being held in the Daviess County Jail without bond. Madrigal is being held on three separate bonds of $100,000.
