A Washington woman is now in jail on multiple charges of child neglect and battery causing death to an infant.
Marissa Aishe, 23, was initially arrested Tuesday by Washington police on charges of domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
On Wednesday, the child, a 16-month-old infant, was pronounced brain dead and Aishe is now also facing charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and domestic battery resulting in death.
The charges stem after an incident that took place Monday when first responders were called to 1303 E. Van Trees St., for an infant who was not breathing. The Washington Police Department, along with the city’s fire department and Daviess Community Hospital’s EMS responded to the call. The infant was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and then flown to Riley Children’s Hospital.
Assisting the Washington Police Department with the investigation were the Daviess County Department of Child Services, Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office, Daviess Community Hospital, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Riley Children’s Hospital, Indiana State Police, IU Health AHC PD and the Marion County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
