PETERSBURG – Makenna Pruett of Barr-Reeve and Garrett Gray of Washington were the area’s two top runners from the Prides’ Creek Regional on Saturday. However, when it was all said and done, Gray (who finished eighth) will also be joined by his brother Isaac (who finished ninth), along with Vikings Bryce Murphy who finished 12th and Connor Heller who finished 15th as both runners will advance to the Brown County semi-state on Saturday. Washington also got a 44th place finish from Robert Gutierrez, but he did not advance.
“We are semi-state bound. Both Gray brothers are headed to the semi state. Isaac has always beaten Garrett, but today Garrett edged him out at the finish. Both have been putting in a lot of hard work. We have talked about ‘earning it’ all season and so far they have. Robert placed 44th, he had a great season,” said WHS coach Tim Baxter.
As a team, the Vikings were sixth with 131 points, just missing out of advancing as a team, and finishing behind Castle, Evansville Reitz, South Knox, Vincennes Lincoln and Gibson Southern. Also finishing for Barr-Reeve was Luke Lengacher 26th, Colton Stoll 38th, Kaden Boyd 40th, Karsen Boyd 59th and Alex McDaniel 69th.
North Daviess had several runners, including Owen Kalanquin (57th), Jared Craven (73rd) and Kyron Simmons in 83rd.
Pruett placed second overall and she will be joined by her teammates as the Lady Vikings finished fourth as a team with 89 points, just four points behind Mount Vernon and Memorial, while South Knox took the title with 70 points.
