JASPER — The Washington Hatchets No. 1 doubles team of Austin Gere and Owen Gray dropped their individual doubles match on Wednesday in Jasper.
The pair was the area’s remaining individuals, and fell to Northeast Dubois’ tandem of Ethan Zigler and Luke Harder (17-3), 1-6, 6-4 and 5-7.
“Austin and Owen had a really good challenging match for the sectional finals in doubles at Jasper on Wednesday evening. We lost the first set pretty quick then regained our composure and stuck with the game plan. Austin and Owen executed it and were able to push to a third set. After an injury timeout on a Northeast Dubois player we started to get on a hot streak but ended up falling short in that third set. The boys had a great season with a record of 13-4,” said WHS coach Jason Johnston.
Jasper won the regional title by defeating Bloomfield, 5-0. It was the Wildcats’ 19th straight title.
