WHS track seniors

BOONVILLE – The Lady Hatchets track team competed in Boonville for the second meet of the season. Although the Hatchets lost to the opponent, there were some great outcomes from a few individuals. Junior, Trinidy Reel placed first in all four events she was entered. She placed first in high jump 4’10, 100m dash 13.94, and both the 4x1 (Kenadie Granger, Reel, Ellie Matteson, Jena Roach) and 4x4 team (Reel, Kenadie Granger, Bree Browning, Ellie Matteson).

Sophomore, Ellie Matteson also came away with four first place finishes. She finished first in Long Jump 14’9 1/2”, 200m in 29.35, and was part of both the 4x1 and 4x4 teams. Senior Jena Roach placed in all four events she competed in as well. Roach had a 1st place finish in the 100m hurdles in 17.09, 2nd place in 200m dash in 30.18 along with a second place finish in long jump and part of the 4x1 teams finish in first. Senior Kenadie Granger took second place in the 100m dash and helped the 4x1 and 4x4 teams to victory.

Senior Audrey Wright took home a second place finish in 300m hurdles and a third place finish in both 1600m and 3200m run. Sophomore Megan Hinkle had a third place finish in 800m run while freshman, Alejandra Gomez grabbed a 2nd place finish in the 400m dash.

The Lady Hatchets will host their only home meet on Thursday at 5 p.m. This will be the meet Seniors will be recognized as well.

The boys team hosted a meet at Lena Dunn as well on Tuesday in their only home meet of the season against Boonville, and was also senior recognition.

“We have seven seniors back and a fairly young team that has been working very hard since January. This was our second meet and many of these athletes have showed a lot of improvement. Even though this is an individual sport, the one thing that stands out is their teamwork and togetherness. This group is always encouraging each other. It is always great to see that kind of attitude on a team. I’m looking forward to seeing this group progress as the season advances,” said WHS coach Tim Baxter.

Top performers included, the 3200 (1st) with 9:33.45, including Colin Englehart, Marc Pierre, Matt Gray and Conner Woolley. In 110 High Hurdles, Ethan Christian was third with :20.3, Keagan McDannald was 2nd with 11.32in the 100 and Layton Terry was third with :11.43’

Matt Gray was 3rd in the 1600 with 5:44, in the 300 Hurdles, Layton Terry was 2nd :49.00, Matt Gray was third in the 800 with 2:16.03, Ivenson Dumervil was first in the 200with :22.90, and Isaac Mozingo was third with 12:55.88 in the 3200.

The 1600 Relay team of Ivenson Dumervil, Matt Gray, Marc Pierre and Colin Englehart was first with 3:57.22.

In the Shot Put, Louk Gray was first with 37’ and Logan Hill was third with 29’11”, and Gray was second in Discus with 130’8” while Dumervil was first in long jump with 20’4” and Conner Woolley was third in high jump with 5’8”.
