ELNORA — The North Daviess Lady Cougars were defeated by the Pike Central Lady Chargers, 15-25, 17-25 and 16-25 on Thursday.

Samara Graber had four kills, two assists, 16 digs and one ace. Stacey Beard had four kills, one block, nine digs and led team in serve reception.

Ashley Webster had three assists and two kills. Erin Winklepleck three kills; one block and one ace. Janae Wagler had three kills, Mackenzie Clark had five assists, three service points and one kill, Morgan Smiley added five service points and Julia Osmon had one kill.

“Although we were playing without two varsity starters due to illness, I was extremely proud of how we battled each point against a very good Pike Central team. Their jump serves caused us difficulty in serve reception and their attack was relentless. Our defense was very good, but several of their hitters were very powerful,” said ND coach Ruthanne Burkhart.

“For us to score in the middle teens in each game was a huge positive for us. We hung in there on many long rallies and never gave up. Heads were up, attitude was good and effort was unquestionable.

“As their coach, I felt pride in their representation of Lady Cougar volleyball.”

The JV Lady Cougars were defeated by PC 13-25 and 17-25. ND was led by Stevi Beck with four kills and two blocks, while Larynda Keith had four assists and three service points.

Lexi Brewer had 11 digs and Ashley Troutman had 13 digs, while Morgan Smiley led the team in serve reception.
