ND Cougars Claim Own Invite

North Daviess (4-0) held up the boys’ tennis trophy on Saturday afternoon in their first invitational competition at Tony Steele Courts. The Cougars dumped Paoli, 5-0, in their first morning match while Brownstown Central did the same to Evansville Harrison. The Rams knocked off Harrison’s Warriors in the consolation round 4-1; meanwhile, ND took out the Braves 5-0 though the sets were closer than the final score indicates. Jaylen Mullen won both of his matches at the top singles spot by the scores of 6-0, 6-1. Markus Britton dropped Paoli 6-1, 6-1 before defeating his BC opponent 6-3, 6-4 at number two singles. Colin Kemp survived a long day at the third singles position by claiming victories 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, and 6-4, 6-1 respectively in the finale. The first doubles tandem of Aric Wade and Brecklin Byrer took care of Paoli 0 and 0; however, the championship was much closer with the Cougs winning 6-4, 7-5. Finally, at two dubs, Hayden Parisien and Brooks Helms had to scratch and claw for a pair of wins. The first match score over Paoli was 6-4, 6-4. The championship involved two tie-breakers with ND prevailing by the slim margins of 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5). Front row (from left): Bodey Mullis, Hayden Parisien, Nathan Coney, and Aric Wade.
