ONB tourney times set
ELNORA — Times have been set for the ONB Holiday Classic after Wednesday’s tournament draw. In the top bracket, Brownstown Central and Barr-Reeve will play at 7:30 p.m. on the opening day (Monday, Dec. 23), while Blackford will play Southridge at 4:30 p.m.
In the bottom bracket, South Knox will play North Daviess at 6 p.m., while Rushville and Loogootee will open the tourney at 3 p.m.
The semi-finals will be Dec. 27 and finals on Dec. 28 (Saturday).
WHS wins at Bedford
BEDFORD — The Washington Hatchet volleyball team traveled to Bedford and came away with a win in five sets, 25-21,25-16,20-25,15-25, 15-11.
WHS ended the night with 51 team kills, 12 team aces, seven team blocks, 92 digs and 45 team assists. JV lost in two sets — 20-25, 15-25
The varsity team moved to 11-3 with the win, and has a tourney on Saturday at South Knox. They play at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
ND Tennis now 13-3
ELNORA — North Daviess continued their winning ways at Tony Steele Courts on Thursday as they beat SWIAC foe, Linton-Stockton, 5-0 in tennis action. Jaylen Mullen and Markus Britton both won 0 and 0 while Colin Kemp gave up just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 affair. Number one doubles Aric Wade and Devin Collins worked the hardest as they claimed a 6-2, 7-6 (5) match while Brooks Helms and Breck Byrer at number two dubs won 1 and 1. Brycen Skinner and Bodey Mullis and Dom Schultz captured exhibition matches as well.
Hatchet soccer gets Big 8 win
The Washington Hatchets soccer team posted a 7-0 over Boonville on Thursday at the Sports Complex.
Hatchets goals were scored by Grant Niehaus with a hat trick, and singles goals from Brady Hill, Joost Mahler, Kyle Mann and Burkley McCarthy.
Assists came from Hill (3), Mahler, and Lance Roach, while Joah Horrall and Wade Frances combined for the shutout in goal.
JV also defeated Boonville by a score of 4-1.WHS is back in action Saturday when the team travels to Princeton for another Big 8 matchup. Kickoff is noon (Eastern time), and it is varsity only.
Lions take down North Knox
LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee varsity volleyball team beat North Knox, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13 to move to 14-1 and 3-0 in the Blue Chip.
Makenzie VanHoy led with 13 points with six aces, while Asia Crim had 11 and Emily Wade and Sara Street had seven each.
Kylie VanHoy led with 18 kills, Makenzie VanHoy had 14 and Wade had seven.
The VanHoys also combined for 38 assists, while Asia Crim had 26 digs, Jocelyn Strange had 24 and Makenzie VanHoy had 14.
Loogootee JV also won 21-25, 25-13, 15-12 and moved to 7-0.
