Wildman, Mullen battle in epic match

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee Lions tennis team (11-0) downed North Daviess in a 5-0 match that featured a 4:37 No. 1 singles match between Jordan Wildman and Cougar freshman Jaylen Mullen. After the smoke cleared, it was Wildman who came away with the 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (9) win.

“Words cannot describe what I saw transpire on the No. 1 singles court today. Jordan Wildman and Jaylen Mullen displayed the heart of champions in an epic No. 1 singles match that lasted four hours and 37 minutes. The final set alone lasted 2 1/2 hours. Neither player refused to give up and would not give an inch. There were a dozen rallies that lasted in excess of 50 shots and two rallies that lasted 128 shots. Though the record books will indicate Jordan Wildman won the match, both players were winners today,” said LHS coach Mike Tippery.

At No. 2 singles, Jalen Wildman defeated Markus Britton 6-1, 6-2, while Bryant Eckerle defeated Colin Kemp 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, Sebastian Toy and Luke Nonte beat Aric Wade and Hayden Parisien, 6-0, 6-2, while Jayden Leatherman and Nathan Seals beat Brooks Helm and Brecklin Byrer 6-0, 6-1.

The Lions next play Friday at Wood Memorial.

WHS downs Linton

The Washington volleyball team continued its successful season with a four-set win over Linton.

The Hatchet varsity dropped the first set 19-25, but responded with three straight wins, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18. WHS posted 42 kills as a team, 38 assists, five assists, eight blocks and 84 digs. The JV lost in two sets, 9-25, 24-25.

“(We) played awesome in front of our growing elementary program who was announced at halftime,” said coach Brett Matteson.

Vikings stay unbeaten in tennis

MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve tennis team won its match with Vincennes Rivet 4-1 on Tuesday night to go 12-0 on the season.

Jayden Graber, who continues to fill in for injured Brycen Graber, lost to Noah Donovan 4-6, 0-6 at No. 1. At No. 2, Kayden Graber beat Samuel Hinkle, 6-4, 6-2, and Nathan Hunt beat Charlie Niehaus, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, Tommy Kidwell and Aaron Wagler beat Grant Freeman and Preston Catt, 6-0, 6-1, while Logan Graber and Hagen Knepp beat Luke Weiss and Peyton Mayles, 6-0, 6-1.

Lady Vikes down Springs Valley in 4

FRENCH LICK — The Barr-Reeve volleyball team defeated Springs Valley in four sets on Tuesday.

In a slow start for the Vikings, B-R lost the first set (25-21); however, B-R got back on track and won the next three 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.

Leading the way for B-R was Hannah Graber with 22 assists. Jasye Thompson had 13 service points with 19 digs, while Addison Ainscough added 19 kills with zero errors.

The No. 1 Lady Vikes are now 15-0, and are off until Saturday when they travel to Mt. Vernon Invitational.

B-R’s JV and C- team played and won. JV won, 25-24, 25-21 and they moved on to 8-1. The C- team won, 25-24, 25-18, and are now 3-1 on the season

B-RJH beats SK

MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve Junior High Tennis team defeated South Knox at Barr-Reeve Tuesday, 5-0, to go 6-1 on the season.

Ethan Stoll won 8-0 at No. 1. Pierce Madison won 8-1 at No. 2, and Landon Armes won 8-0 in the third slot. In doubles, Kylan Lengacher and Donnie Miller won 8-3, while Ethan Graber and Isaac Madison won 8-0.
