VINCENNES – The Lady Hatchets used a 22-5 third quarter run to defeat Vincennes Lincoln on Tuesday night 61-39 at Alice Arena.

“Vincennes jumped out on us quick to start the game, we were able to claw back before halftime going in up 5. The first half turnovers were the biggest difference from first to second half. Before the game the focus was to win the turnover and rebounding battle, and the toughness plays. We turned it over nine times the first half and four the second half, which gave us more possessions to score. The kids were phenomenal on the boards winning the battle 31-11,” said coach Gretchen Miles.

“Our three seniors captains came to play and that is the play we expect out of them each time they step on the floor in order for us to be successful, you want seniors doing senior things. Alaina was very good finishing around the basket, behind the arc and on the boards. Kencia, after picking up two early fouls, really settled in and played the entire game in foul trouble, she was very good in transition and off the bounce, and was tremendous on the boards,” added Miles.

“Jesse was still warm from Saturday night and had to work for every shot she got. She was knocking down perimeter shots that we needed. Olivia Gilley hit some big shots for us when they were sagging off in the paint, Liv did a nice job spotting up on the baseline and ready to knock down that shot. Madi Dalton continues to give us positive minutes on the floor and on the boards. We did a really good job on the boards.”

The Lady Hatchets were led by Thorne with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, Kencia Levasseur with a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and 5 assists, Jesse Ledgerwood 14 points, including 4 threes, Olivia Gilley with 6 points and Chloe Browning rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

The JV Hatchets dropped to Vincennes Lincoln 37-40. Kenna Garland led the way with 13 points, Lacy Hancock and Hayleigh Cummins with 6 points each, Izzie Howell and Madi Dalton with 4 points each, Aubrey Frank and Molly Jones with 2 points, each.

Hatchets are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Linton. JV start is 1 p.m.
